Meet Your

Nonprofit Navigator

I’m Lindsey Lopez Horwitz

Founder of The Business of Nonprofits, a consulting practice built on the belief that impact-focused work thrives at the intersection of purposeful planning &deep humanity.

I speciailize in:

Transforming operational chaos into streamlined systems that amplify impact
Converting founder-dependent organizations into sustainable institutions
Developing leadership figureheads who can drive the mission forward without burnout
Creating strategic frameworks that attract funding AND fulfill purpose
Building community partnerships that multiply your organization's influence

To work with founders & directors who are ready to :

Build organizations bigger than themselves
Lead boldly without apologizing for operational excellence
Stop confusing busy with effective
Create sustainable systems that survive leadership transitions
Scale their impact without sacrificing their sanity

I was built to be your right-hand person, your plug-and-play cofounder, your tough love with a hug.

Think of me as your guide here to help you restructure your nonprofit to become a rock-solid organization, on your terms.

Your nonprofit deserves better than one-size-fits-none approaches that undermine its potential.

And you deserve better than exhausting yourself daily while watching your boldest visions shrink to fit your capacity limits. I’m here to help by bridging the gap between commercial business acumen and non-profit purpose.

I’m about true transformation on a legacy level.

I equip visionary founders to lead strategically, not sacrificially, turning their missions into movements backed by systems that work even when they don't.

Real, sustainable change only happens when you address both the technical nuts and bolts and the human side of running an organization, and you, your team and your community deserve to have leader who will:

You were built to do things differently.

Lead with confidence
Create lasting impact
Build sustainable systems
Enjoy their work
Take care of themselves

I’ve spent my entire life turning empathy into action

    TRAMA Textiles – Xela, Guatemala

  • 2009 – 2022
El Cuartito Café – Xela, Guatemala
🎶 My longest-running venture: part café, part art house, part event venue . I grew revnue 300% through sold-out events, and created the city’s most active cultural venue. This is where I learned to lead with both vision and heart. Though I sold it in 2022 this place will forever live in my bones.

💡 Launched the city’s first-ever TEDx event titled Dreamers and Doers alongside 6 team leads coordinating 50 volunteers, and a powerful lineup of speakers that inspired an entire region. Unforgettable!

West Valley Parent Association Communitario – Yakima, WA
👩‍👧‍👦 Relocating during a global pandemic is no joke. Building an intentional community I was invited to be Board President, where I supported migrant and Spanish-speaking families in navigating the public school system, creating access to resources, connection, and further education for adults. I also served as PTA President, because, of course I did.

    2021 – 2024

The Business of Nonprofit & Nonprofit Strategy Consulting
After multiple nudges I finally merged my entrepreneurial chops with my heart for service, building infrastructure nonprofits, securing grant funding, and designing programs rooted in equity, healing, and sustainability with a pinch of stepping in as interim Executive Director here and there.

We both know you don't need another consultant…

You need a leadership navigator who's been in the trenches 👇🏽

Having spent the last 15+ years growing multiple small businesses and guiding grassroots organizations worldwide through critical growth phases, I bring a hybrid perspective that challenges the sector's "that's how we've always done it" mentality. I’ve guided nonprofit leaders through everything from resource scarcity to bureaucratic gridlock and even stepped in as Interim ED.

So…

What this means for you is:

01.

You get a partner who walks the talk.
I’ve bootstrapped cafes, wrangled TEDx speakers, led grassroots coalitions, and rebuilt businesses in real time. I know what it takes to turn a spark of an idea into something sustainable, meaningful, and scalable, and I’ll help you do the same.

02.

I see your big picture & what you're up against today.
From sold-out cultural events to building systems that keep seven-figure launches on track, I bring both visionary strategy and in-the-weeds execution. We don’t just dream up a plan, we map it, build it, and get it done - together.

03.

Creative thinking is the base of everything we do.
One thing I know already, your organization is unique and requires unique solutions. I bring community-powered thinking to everything. Whether I’m working with a founder, board chair, or a digital entrepreneur, I bring deep listening, cultural dexterity, and inclusive problem-solving to the table.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER
